Consumer advocate Ralph Nader will hold a will hold a press conference in room D-1 of the Legislative Office Building at 1 PM. Joining Mr. Nader = will be spokespersons from the Green Party of Connecticut, Connecticut Citizens Action Group, CONNPirg, and other organizations.
These organizations will join with Ralph Nader in denouncing the undemocratic legislative procedures used by Governor Rowland and House and Senate leaders to push the stadium bill through the legislature. Continued efforts to fight the stadium will also be discussed.
From 6-8 PM Ralph Nader will be the featured speaker at an Authentic Public Hearing on the stadium issue at the Hartford Public Library Auditorium on Main Street in Hartford. This event is free and open to the public and will focus on what citizens can do to fight the stadium as well as provide citizens with information they were unable to obtain from the so-called public hearings held by the legislature.
Andrew Zimbalist, Professor of Sports Economics at Smith College, will also be a featured speakers at one or both of these events (details are still being worked out). Professor Zimbalist has written extensively on the economic impact 20 of sports stadiums and is considered an expert on the issue. Professor Zimbalist was scheduled to speak at the public hearing on December 9, but was unable because he was too far down on the list.
