David Bedell, Secretary of the Connecticut Green Party, announced today that Bonnie Troy, candidate for the CT General Assembly in District 135 (Easton, Redding & Weston) is the first Green Party candidate to receive Connecticut Citizen’s Election Program (CEP) funding. “We are excited to participate in this program because the Green Party supports, in its national platform, full public financing of federal, state and local elections in order to level the playing field and reduce the influence of money in politics. We would like to see the CEP be made equally available to all qualified candidates regardless of party affiliation."
Bonnie is running on both the Green Party and Democratic tickets. She obtained the requisite amounts of indistrict donors and required funds for the CEP. If elected, Bonnie will be the highest Green Party officeholder in the USA.
Bonnie’s platform includes incentives for sustainable businesses; keeping Millennials and seniors in Connecticut; reducing chemical use in land care and agriculture; increasing food security; improving infrastructure for both public transportation and access to locally grown food; and increasing state revenue through legalizing marijuana.
There is no incumbent in the 135th race; John Shaban is vacating the seat and is running for Congress in the fourth district against incumbent Jim Himes.
