| CHARLIE PILLSBURY’S SPEECH AT THE
“PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER” RALLY WITH RALPH NADER AT
THE NEW HAVEN COLISEUM, SUNDAY, JUNE 30, 2002
My name is Charlie Pillsbury, and I am the Green
Party’s candidate for Congress here in the Third
District, which covers most of South Central
Connecticut from Stratford to Guilford and from
Middletown to Naugatuck, including New Haven, the
Valley and the Shoreline. I am running against a
Democrat and a Republican.
What’s the difference between the Green Party and
the Republicans and Democrats? The Democrats and
Republicans take millions of dollars in corporate
contributions and spend their time working for their
rich friends and contributors, the people in the
suites. The Green Party does not accept any corporate
money, just individual contributions; so we spend our
time fighting for people in the streets, not in the
suites; por la gente en los barrios, no por los
ejecutivos en los bancos.
You can help us do this. Tomorrow evening at 6:00
p.m., the New Haven County Green Party and the Greater
New Haven Branch of the NAACP are organizing a march
to support black homeowners who live near the Hamden
Middle School, who have discovered they’re living
above an old toxic waste dump (a mess made by a
company that didn‘t clean up after itself). The
Democrats and Republicans who run the Town of Hamden
are planning to move the mostly white student body to
a new middle school, but they are doing nothing to
help these black homeowners.
Once again, the Democrats and Republicans are looking
out for “just us”, the people in the suites (or,
in this case, their children), and not the people in
the streets. Make a difference, march with the Green
Party and the NAACP tomorrow night and fight for
environmental justice for the residents of southern
Hamden. And with your help, they will win, because The
People Have The Power.
Venceremos!
